names like
Carys
Terrwyn
Sian
arlais
eira
rhedyn
lynette
gwen
Do u think it will work here. I absolutely fell in love with wales and i love the people and the names in wales. I am also of welsh orgin and i want to honor that.
Feel Free too suggest a first name and a middle name of welsh orgin
Would a welsh name be too weird in the us?
If celebrities can call their children Shouvel and Romeo then i don't see why not.
I am Welsh and I think it's great that you want a welsh name. No i shouldn't think it would be too weird unique but not weird.
Reply:I am a proud Gwendolyn, I really love my name, I go by Gwen and my neices call me Aunt Gwendy..I think it is cute! Thanks MOM! Report Abuse
Reply:Honestly, just don't use it. People in the US seem to have a problem with pronouncing things. If you insist on it, I'd suggest you talk to an ACTUAL Welsh person to make sure you're pronouncing them right to begin with - people make real arses of themselves when they use a name that they think they know how to say, but really don't.
My da's side of the family is all Welsh, and I've never seen any of these names used, so I'd be real careful using them, seeing as most people in Wales have English names.
The only one I like is Carys, but would never use it personally.
Perhaps these names would be good as middle names, but really - don't use these names unless you're Welsh. It makes you look moronic.
Reply:Carys is beautiful!
Morgan and Meredythe are welsh names but not uncommon here.
Dylan is welsh as well. Evan and Owen are welsh forms of John.
Bronwen is a pretty welsh name. Cain is a welsh girls' name meaning
"beautiful"
Catylyn and Catrin both mean "pure" and are welsh forms of Katherine
Dillen is a welsh girls' name meaning "precious thing"
Rhiannon is welsh meaning "great queen"
Reese/Reece/Rhys is welsh meaning "ardor"
Hope I helped some
Reply:No, I don't think a welsh name will to be too weird in the US. I think that Welsh names are gorgeous, they're always really flowy and with the "Wyn" at the end of most of them they're like a breath of fresh air.

Reply:The only Welsh names that would sound out place in America are the weird ones like 'Dafyddh' (pronounced Tavith).

Catrin (Kah-TREEN)
Crysten (KRIS-ten))
Emrys (Em-REECE)

Kendall (KEN-Dal)
Llywela (Lih-WELL-Ah)

Reply:No, it would not be weird. The US is a melting pot as it is. You should definitely choose a name that has special meaning for you.
I LOVE Carys, Lynette and Gwen. My youngest daughter is named Gwendalyn, and we call her Gwendy and Gwen for short. These three names (Carys, Lynette and Gwen) would easily "fit into" the United States.
The others would be a little more difficult, but if you like one of them-go for it!
Reply:I think a Welsh name would be fine-- Honestly, I don't think there is such thing as a "too weird" name in the US anymore... Take a look at the whacked out names celebrities are bestowing upon their kids these days! :)
My advice would be to just make sure it's something your children's teachers won't have trouble pronoucing in classes and such-- People have missed out on jobs because they had un-prounouncable names.
A nice Welsh name couldn't be worse than some of the names I've seen around here....
Lime Green
Lemonjello and Orangejello were twins born at MCG, their mother was having trouble picking out names and literally got them off the dessert menu at the hospital...
and my two favorites are Kortorcha and Jabari (two people I used to work with...)
Reply:Carys, Gwen, Lynette and maybe Eira would be accepted here.
To Theo: Oh please! Gwen and Lynette have been used in the US for years and years. Carys is a more recent arrival, but everyone knows how to say it properly by now. Do people look moronic if they use English names if they're not of English origin? What about Greek or Latin names? Sorry, but the world is getting smaller...get used to it.
Reply:Gwen is definately a pretty common name.
And here in the melting pot, there is really nothing that is too weird, that is, as long as its pronouncible. And spellable. I know many people who dislike their names simply because every one always says it wrong, spells it wrong, can come up with cruel rhyming names.
I wouldn't worry to much about it being weird. :)
Reply:I love Carys and Rhedyn, Lynette would be a pretty middle name, and Gwen isn't really that uncommen, gwenyth paltrow, gwen stephanie. Bronwyn, Anwen, Menna, Nia, Rhoswen, and my favorite welsh name, Gwendolyn.
Reply:That's silly, these names are very pretty, I don't think they are weird, maybe unusual, and unique, but not weird! Don't listen to other people! Your picks are pretty, especially these:Arlais, Eira, Rhedyn,
Reply:I think names that have easy pronounciation would be great.
Carys is nice, and is easy to say, as is Sian.
I also like Lynette %26amp; Gwen, and everybody knows how to say them :D
x
Reply:I'm also of Welsh descent. James is my last name, a very Welsh name, and I would like to use names that sound Welsh without sounding too common. I'm still single, so I'm not in a hurry, but thanks for asking this question.
I like Rhys
Taryn
that's all for now
Reply:I dont think a Wlesh name would be weird at all. However it would depend on the name as to whether there would be pronounciation problems. As some Welsh names can be pronounced totally different to what they look like.
I like Carys and Sian.
Reply:Many good names would seem weird wherever you go. It just depends on where you are.
I like:
Carys
Sian
Eira
Carys Rain
Carys Sage
Carys Adelaide
Sian Rehgan
Sian Braith
Sian Fion
Eira Elliot
Eira Catrin
Eira Dai
Reply:Out of your list, i like: Carys, Sian, Rhedyn and Terrwyn. They are nice. I don't think it'd be wierd tohave them names in the US. Lots of people have names from all over the world.
Reply:Actually, Rhys and Owen seem to be really popular right now.
I say go for it, as long as the spelling and pronunciation are pretty congruent.
Reply:it's just ok to give ur baby a name of welsh origin. there's nothing wrong with that and it will be awesome. u can name ur baby whatever name u would wanna give her.
Reply:Well Dylan is a Welsh name and that is popular
