is the name ashmore welsh???
Welsh names, is this last name welsh?
"ashmore Name Meaning and History
English: habitational name from any of several minor places, generally named from Old English 忙sc 鈥榓sh鈥?+ mor 鈥榤oor鈥? 鈥榤arsh鈥? 鈥榝en鈥? In the case of Ashmore in Dorset, however, the early forms show that the second element is Old English mere 鈥榣ake鈥? "
The map that Ancestry shows it's distribution in 1891 is mainly around Yorkshire and Debryshire.
Reply:I'd say English.
edit: I've noticed that most Welsh names are plural-sounding and/or one syllable names like Jones, James (English as well), Owens, Evans, Maddox, and Phillips.
