What do you think of these Welsh girl names?

Anwen.

Carys.

Eleri.

Guinevere.

Rowena.

What do you think of these Welsh girl names?
Guinevere isn't a Welsh name (there's no v in Welsh).

The Welsh for Guinevere is Gwenhwyfar.

The rest are fine...how about Bethan, Gwenda, Nia, Alwena, Rhian, Hâf, Eirlys?

Hâf is Welsh for 'summer' it's pronounced like the English 'halve'.

As for Karys...there's no 'k' in Welsh either.

Eirlys is Welsh for 'snowdrop'

Welsh names don't have the 'double n'...Rhianne is English, Rhian is Welsh. Bryn (not Brynn) is a boy's name, it means 'hill'.

Here are some more...

Reply:I love love Guinevere! Rowena is a lovely, feminine alternate to the masculine boy's name Rowan. Carys is growing on me.

The only one I really dislike is Eleri. To me it looks like it should be a nickname for something.

[Edit] Guinevere is derived from Gwenhwyfar (GWEN hi var).
Reply:Eleri, Llinios, Llio, Sian, Rhainnon... Found a great thread with loads of welsh names for you here http://my.bounty.com/Forums/TreeLeaves.a...
Reply:Ah, Welsh names! I love them :)

Carys is my all time favourite name, and spelled that way too.

Eleri is ok, however i'm not keen on Anwen, Guinevere and Rowena.

How about Rhian, Eilidh and Ffion and Cerys?

Reply:My mum was called Eirlys - she was Welsh (as I am) but we lived in England and no-one was ever able to pronounce her name properly so she ended up calling herself Liz to her friends. As teenagers, if we wanted to annoy her we'd call her Snowdrop (she didn't like that!). I love the name Carys.
Reply:Anwen. - Doesn't sound very pretty

Carys. - I like this name, it's sweet for a little girl

Eleri. - Not sure how to pronounce that

Guinevere. - no, she will be teased

Rowena. - not sure if I like it or not
Reply:I like Carys (or even Cerys, as in Cerys Matthews).

What about Brynn? I'm sure that's Welsh and I love it. I can't use it tho as my girl's middle name has to be Lynne ...Brynn Lynne, can you imagine?? I'm not that cruel tho!
Reply:I like them all, although Rolyn- yn flîn ddiawledig is certainly right since he's a source himself.

But don't do Rowena. There is a German hoover trademark called Rowenta..... Hope that tells it all.

Wish you well!

xx
Reply:I like Eleri the best. The others are okay but not great.

Reply:I like Carys and Eleri. I have family who live in North Wales and have heard of all these names. Very nice. I also like Rhianne.
