And since I'm sure some have been mentioned, a few of my LEAST favorite options would be the commonly-confused or misspelled sort. For example ...
* Gwendolyn - the literal root here would be the gwen + dolen, not LYN, elements LOL
* Bronwyn - ditto the above. This one strikes me as particularly ignorant, since the substituted -wyn ending seems an attempt to indicate a masculine form (meaning those using it obviously aren't familiar with the name or its roots)
* Charis/Caris - Greek names, not related to Welsh Carys
* Teagan and Morrigan - both separate Irish names, not the same as Welsh Tegan and Morgan
There are plenty of wonderful Welsh options out there! ;) You might find quite a few more that would appeal here (very accurate site, by the way!): http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/wel_f.p... Hope these help!

I want to change my name back to the original Welsh. Problem: it is illegal in UK will it effect it in the USA?
Both of my grandfathers were from the same tribe in Northern Wales. They were both put on ships in the middle of the night and sent away. They found their way to the US and both married native americans.
Immigration gave them names that were english.
The problem I am worried about is that under the U.K. rabble rouser laws the family name is not legal on government documents in the U.K., will that effect my abillity to change it back in the U.S.?

but maybe just in case,
you could put this question under Politics and Government%26gt;Immigration

Can anyone tell me the title of a book, with the title fetauring the name of a Welsh town?
Hello,
There was a book I saw which was pulished a couple of years ago which I am looking for. All I know, apart from that it was published within the last five years or so, is that it is a novel, the title of the book is a Welsh town, and the length of the book is quite long, probably 700-800 words plus. Any help would be most appreciated.
Best wishes

is the longest place name here in Wales. Can't help with the novel though as theres are loads.
Reply:Most probably Last Tango in Aberystwyth by Malcolm Pryce or one of that series (there are about five or six of them altogether.)
Or it could be Swansea Terminal by Robert Lewis (who also has other books with Welsh towns in the title)
And there is even a book called Cardiff Dead by John Willians, but as it was first published in 2001, this might be too early for the search.

How can the name Jones can b welsh. I know it means son of John... there is no J in the welsh language.?
It's like so many Welsh names imposed on the Welsh by the English, who took exception to their habit of not having surnames, but referring to everyone as the son or daughter of their dad. (They still do this in Iceland, but nobody minds). The English bestowed epithets which were run of the mill English Christian names with s on the end, e.g. Roberts, Williams, Davies, or else told people with names which elided easily that they could join the "ap" ("son of") with their father's name to make it one name rather than two, e.g. ap Richard became Pritchard, ap Henry became Penry, ap Rhys became Preece or Price, etc. etc.
Now imagine someone whose father rejoiced in the name of Ioan ("John") coming forward to be registered by the English. They simply wouldn't be able to pronounce it! So they would anglicise it and tell Guto ap Ioan that he could be referred to as Guto Jones in future. Too bad that there was no "J" in Welsh, as there was in English. So that was that!
How can the name Jones can b welsh. I know it means son of John... there is no J in the welsh language.?
Interesting answer from Caicos - I had often wondered about this. Still, why is the Welsh name Jones rather than Johns?

In Welsh how would I write the name Ariel? and the word twinsister?
The name Ariel would be written the same way in Welsh. There is a welsh girls name called "Arial" which is quite similar
The right word for twin sister depends on the context that you use it in. The word for a girl twin is "gefeilles". You would use this if you wanted to say A twin sister
If you wanted to say MY twin sister you would say "fy nghefeilles"
If you wanted to say YOUR twin sister you would say "dy geffeilles".
The welsh language can be quite complicated with different mutations on the start of the word depending on what precedes it.
It's a difficult language to learn :)

Looking for info on my Welsh family in Illinois. My grandfathers name was Thomas Roy Ralph Griffith?
My grandfather was disowned by his family (actually his father was disowned) because he married a black woman. My grandfathers name was Thomas Roy Ralph Griffith, and he was born in Champaign Ill. He died in the 1950's of kidney/liver cancer, to my understanding he was only 25 years old. He was born to a Welsh father and black/cherokee mother. he had brothers and sisters out of Ill. but all are deceased. any information would be helpfull, I am trying to build my family tree, and have run into road blocks because my Griffith family disowned us because of our race.
Looking for info on my Welsh family in Illinois. My grandfathers name was Thomas Roy Ralph Griffith?
The name Thomas Griffith is too common and your dates too vague for me to look him up in the census with any accuracy. Can you give me his parents or sibling's names?
The only thing I found that could be him is a index to a cemetery reading:
Cemetery Records of Champaign County, Illinois, vol 9: Mount Hope Cemetery, Champaign -- west half (1961); page 204 includes GRIFFITH, THOMAS ROY
Reply:It surprises many people that records of living persons can be harder to locate, and once you get back to the early 1900's or 1800's, the doors "open". If possible, you need to zoom in to locate the exact date of death or maybe the cemetery where he is buried. The goal is his death certificate, which should show the names of his parents. Deaths since about 1960 will be in the social security death index, but he died before that. Do you know the names of those siblings?? They could be listed, and you could use that as a "back door", perhaps finding an obituary for them that includes the parents. The 1930 census is open for research, although not always posted online through the free sites.
I did check rootsweb.com's family files.. using the advanced search with Griffith and Champaign as search keys, there are a number of entries. One of those could be his relatives even though he is not listed.
Reply:you could also try Ancestry.com...good luck!

How come Welsh people have very unique names.?
Their cities and many of their names are very different than those of the rest of the UK and even Ireland. Things like Seisyllwg, Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Powys Wenwynwyn etc.
How come Welsh people have very unique names.?
You need to study history. Yes, they are part of the U.K.; the English tried to destroy everything Welsh, everyone Welsh, but failed. (The Queen of England is descended from a Welshman who killed the (then) king of England, married her, and their lineage are the Royalty now of England. Talk about revenge!)
To answer your question, the Welsh were on the island before the British (the English were there before the British; the British are a result of William the Conqueror invading England in 1066).
Welshmen still use their own language and names. The longest name in the world is a Welsh name. The Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Celts, et al, all used their own names, but as Christianity spread, they adopted Hebrew/Christian names.
What you are talking about is just like the "Mc" or "O", "von", or any of the other ethnic names.
Just google "history of Wales", "history of the British Isles", etc.' Wikipedia usually has short, but factual, articles that are easily read and will put these things into focus for you.
Reply:I have Welsh ancestors, with names similar to the ones you mentioned. My Mom spoke Welsh when she was younger, as her older brothers all spoke it. But one of her brothers married a German; then she spoke German. It is all so confusing, and intriguing! Thanks for Best Answer! Report Abuse

Name a good Welsh or Irish singer?
I'm Welsh and used to belong to a Welsh Male Voice Choir, I appreciate all good singers.
My favourite Irish singer among the tenors is Joseph Locke, and among the younger ones, Daniel O'Donnel.
My favourite Welsh singer is Katherine Jenkins, I met her once, she really is a beautiful person inside and out.
I also liked Charlotte Church when she was much younger.
I tried adding a youtube to each of these four singers, but had the 'Error' notice and they wouldn't submit. This has happened on several occasions and I have reported it.
A couple of weeks ago, I succeeded in adding such a youtube the next day by editing my answer, so I will try it later.

What Are Some Of Your Favourite Welsh Names? ?
Just curious to be honest. Personally I think that Welsh names (well some of then) are beautiful, especially ones for girls. They're always really pretty. You can do either gender and, basically, the person with the names that I like best will get the 10 points. Please don't do too many (so no more than 20), because then it will take me forever! Lol.
Also please don't thumbs down people because they are entitled to their opinion. The only time you can thumbs down is if they're stupid answers.
Thanks
Earthy

Why cant English people pronounce Welsh place names properly?
Its not ignorance. The Welsh actually have been saying it wrong since the beginning.

Reply:No average English person wishes to visit let alone pronounce stupid names, close the Severn Bridge and Cardiff Airport I say, get a life, even Phil Dirtbox who we all know has problems had the sense to escape to London If you can call the English ignorant as that is your opinion without yahoo violating your question, then I can reply that I consider that the Welsh are one chromosome short of chromagnum man as that is my opinion.
Reply:It isn't a problem specific to Welsh, the same applies to all other languages and it is not limited only to English people. It is a fault common to English speakers in general.
Most English speakers get by perfectly well in English wherever they go so they never learn other languages and don't have any experience at trying to pronounce "foreign" words. At the same time a huge variation in pronunciation is tolerated in English in a way that is not acceptable in most other languages. Think of the hugely differing accents just in England not to mention the rest of the world. As it isn't terribly important in English many anglophones find it impossible to understand why it should matter in Welsh or any other language.
I live in Belgium and have many English friends who are quite fluent in French, Dutch and other languages, but many still don't get the pronunciation right and some of them are professional linguists. Once they have seen a word written down then, irrespective of the pronunciation rules of that language, they are going to treat it as if it were an English word. An added problem is the lack of diacritic marks or accents over letters in English. Most English speaking people just don't recognise them and carry on as if they didn't exist. Thus 茅, 枚, 氓 and 盲 are treated as if they were e, o, a and a.
That is the neutral explanation, but it has to be added that cultural imperialism and arrogance do play a part as well. Why do so many fail to correct themselves even when their mispronunciation is pointed out to them? A bad attitude I'm afraid.
Reply:We are only used to civilised words.
England for ever.
Reply:Some interesting responses posted, though I'm not sure our fluffy geneticist is necessarily on the right track. Pure ignorance is perhaps closer the mark (though also a little harsh I think). The answer, of course, is that many Welsh place names rightly have their root in the Welsh language. Like any language, you need to understand its rules, and this takes study or, if you are lucky enough, a protracted period of exposure. In addition, there is also the point about muscle memory. To form different sounds the muscles in your mouth and throat need to work in a variety of combinations. Combinations that simply don't exist in your first language, will prove very difficult to perform without practice. Just as any other physical act, you need to work your muscles to improve performance. It is for this reason that you will find most multilingual people capable of rapid and accurate pronunciation of previously unknown languages. Unfortunately, most English speakers are monoglot. It is indeed a shame that Britain as a whole has not capitalized on the wealth of culture and learning it already has captured within its own native languages - some of which could lay strong claim to being the true 'British'.

The Last name "Payne", is it British, Welsh, Irish, Scottish?
the name probably comes from England.
If you work back on your ancestry, you will find you have 4 grandparents..8 gr grandparents.. 16 gr gr grandparents.
You are equally part of each of them.. and everyone will have a different last name and ancestry. Thus.. someone whose last name happens to be Payne can be all of the above heritage, depending on who they married. Think about it.

Does any one Know what name 'Fowler' means? Welsh or Irish?
I found this for you.
Surname: Fowler
This interesting surname is of Anglo-Saxon origin, and is from an occupational name for a bird-catcher or hunter of wild birds. In the medieval period a fowler would have been an important position, and all major houses would have employed one. The derivation is from the Olde English pre 7th Century "fugelere", hunter of wild birds. Job-descriptive surnames originally denoted the actual occupation of the namebearer, and later became hereditary. There are several namebearers listed in the "Dictionary of National Biography", many being men of the church, the others tending towards innovation, such as John Fowler (1826 - 1864), who invented the steam plough,in 1858 he received a prize from the Royal Agricultural Society for his steam cultivator, and William Fowler (1761 - 1832), an artist, who was said to have introduced lead lines in representing coloured glass. The name reached the New World in the early 17th Century, when it is recorded that one George Fowler, aged 22 yrs., sailed aboard the "Primrose" in July 1635, bound for Virginia. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Richard Fugelere, which was dated 1218, witness in the "Assize Court Rolls of Lancashire", during the reign of King Henry 11, known as "The Frenchman", 1216 - 1272. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
hope this helps.
Does any one Know what name 'Fowler' means? Welsh or Irish?
Itjustme gave you a good answer. However, that doesn't mean that someone with the name Fowler can't be more Irish than anything. A person might have had a great great great grandfather who was English whose named was Fowler and he married an Irish girl and all the marriages of their descendants could have been to someone Irish.
There were English that settled in Ireland and Irish that emigrated to England.
That is why in genealogy we don't judge a person's background by their name.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee.

Hello Out There, My last name is Welsh But.. I just found out it 'was' Welsch. Anybody know the origin of it?
Hello errybody.. As I said my last name is Welsh, But.. I Just (!!) found out it 'was' actually Welsch. It's like having the name Bruce Lee and then finding out it was Bruce Leigh (or Somethin' like that) I have several ideas about places it Might have originated from but if any of you 'Welsch' or 'non Welsch' folk out there have any reliable info or ideas as to the origins of it, I would Love to hear it.. I've 'heard tell' it was alsatian (as in alsace lorraine) and was (even 'more originally') Von Dem Welsch. This is Entirely too elaborate for this type of forum but I'm not sure where else? I could/would possibly ask it.. Any genealogy gurus out dere? Thanks For Readin', E.
Hello Out There, My last name is Welsh But.. I just found out it 'was' Welsch. Anybody know the origin of it?
Don't take hearsay too literally in families. Were most of it true, we'd all be descended from Polish princes and American Indian princesses.
If the name was originally WELSCH, then it means your ancestor was known as "the foreigner" when he adopted this as a surname. In Western and Central Europe, surnames were adopted gradually, with no rules attached to them Alsace and Lorraine were duchies, as were all their neighbors like Brabant. Moving from one to another for several centuries was very easy. When you were the new guy in the village, you could easily have been called Ben the Foreigner, distinguishing you from Ben the Butcher, Ben the Blacksmith and Ben the Wine gardener.
All of the Low Countries spoke a similar dialect of Low German, but each had nuances. It's much like the dialects of English spoken around the world. A bonnet in Louisiana means a babies cap. In New England, it may mean a woman's cap. In England, it means the hood of your car
The only way you will know the truth about your family heritage is to dig in and start researching it. But the caveat to it is that you have to put aside every bit of family folklore you're heard and concentrate on the facts. Follow the paper trail and don't get steered into a pre-conceived path...it could be completely wrong.
Reply:I have a book on German surnames called 'Deutsche Namenkunde' which I have found quite helpful (I have several German lines in my ancestry). I looked up Welsch and it is a variant of Walch - which can mean 'foreigner' or someone more specifically from Wales (or, they say in the book, Italy - though not sure why, though Italy is closer to Germany than Wales!), or else is a variant of the Polish 'Vlach' .
When I saw your question I thought: German surname, pretty sure about that! You may also want to research your family a bit (census, Ellis Island database on line) and talk to older relatives for clues about your family's origin.
Reply:There is nothing elaborate at all about your question. Where a name originates is one of the most common questions we have here, as well as (in my opinion), the most misunderstood.
Spelling variations are completely normal. Today, our thinking is geared to standardized, and "correct", as well as most persons being literate.
In some cases, you might find the actual origin of a name.. but just as often, such a thing does not really exist. Names can come from more than one place.
The ONLY reliable way to find origins is to focus on the ancestor themselves, not the spelling of any name. This relies on using documentation. "Heard tell" is a dead giveaway that oral history is being relied on, which (1) is easily distorted and (2) may be completely wrong.
Taking a look at www.rootsweb.com, there are almost 5000 entries for the spelling Welsch. Some in PA in the 1700s. Some from Yugoslavia, some with "Johannes" which can be German, but might be somewhere else. Alsace Lorraine may be accurate.. this area has flipped between German/French jurisdiction many times.
YOUR ancestor (and specifics) might be in one of those files. Your goal would be tracing back from yourself, to determine exactly who your ancestors are/were. If you think about it.. your ancestor very likely had several records that will show the alternate spellings.. but refer to the same person.
If we can entice you.. one location mentioned www.rootsweb.com has a guide to beginning research on the front page.
Reply:it was not until the late 19thcentury that names had consistant spellings, if you were to trace your family history you would find both spellings and probably some others as well.

Does the name "Gillow" have Welsh roots?
This is what I found for you.
Surname: Gillow
This most interesting name is of English locational origin from a place called "Gillow" near Tretire in Herefordshire, which was recorded as "Cil luch" circa 1150 in the Liber Landavensis and "Gilloch" and "Killo" in the Inquisitiones Post Mortem of 1280. The placename itself is composed of the Welsh elements "cil", meaning retreat, plus "Ilwch", a pool, hence "a retreat by the pool". During the Middle Ages when migration for the purpose of job seeking was becoming more common, people often took their former village name as a means of identification, hence placenames became a major influence in surname formation. The surname first appears in records in the late 14th Century (see below). One Richardus Gillowe appeared in 1379 in the Poll Tax Records of Yorkshire, as was one Willelmus Gylowe. Two interesting namebearers include a Thomas Gillow (1769 - 1857) who after fleeing the French Revolution became chaplain at Callaly Castle, Northumberland and John Gillow (1753 - 1828) who was president of Ushaw College from 1811 - 1828 and was for twenty years in charge of York Mission. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Willelmus Gyllow, which was dated 1379, The Poll Tax Records of Yorkshire, during the reign of King Richard 11, "Richard of Bordeaux", 1377 - 1399. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

Does the Dragon which appears on the Welsh Flag have a Name?
It doesn't have a name that I know of other than Y Ddraig Goch, which simply means "the red dragon". There are lots of stories about it though. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y_Ddraig_Go... for a selection.
I was quite appalled at the number of people who thought it would be clever to post silly or insulting answers to this question. You must be such sad little people. Or is it a case of flag-envy?

I getting a welsh corgi puppy what should I name her?
I have a few good names that I almost named my welsh corgi. Sadie, Ginger, Brownie, Twinkie, and Cali. I hope you like some of these if not try looking at the coat of the dog, like Twinkie works if the dog has a lighter coat, and Brownie could work if it has more of a darker coat color.
Reply:Those signature ears, eternally pricked, will hear you calling from the neighboring zip code, so make sure choose a fitting name. It's too easy to fall back on an obvious choice like Shortie or Harry--try something out of the ordinary or traditionally Welsh, like Cardiff, Rugby, or Swansea.

Is it some kind of lower UK caste?
What have they done?
What accomplishments have they achieved?
Maybe the English can't pronounce Welsh places because they haven't heard of any.
I've heard of England, Scotland, Ireland.

It was the Welsh boxer who died. His name was Johnny Owen and he was fighting Lupe Pintor of Mexico for the world championship at bantamweight.

Welsh boxer Johnny Owen died after fighting Mexico's Lupe Pintor back in September 1980. The fight was stopped in the 12th round and Owen died as a result of a brain clot.

I want to know the Welsh for this name??
I would like to know the Welsh for the name Clare, please. And how to pronounce it too.Thank You. : )
I want to know the Welsh for this name??
There is no Welsh variation of Clare. And Ciara is not gaelic for Claire. It's simply the feminine version of Ciarán. Made popular by St. Ciarán. The name Clare/Claire is popular and used as a name in Ireland because of St. Claire. Who was highly respected in Ireland. Ciarán comes from the Irish word Ciar meaning black. While the name Clare comes from the latin word clarus meaning clear, bright.
Reply:Clare isn't a Welsh name, so there really isn't a "Welsh version."

I have a welsh pony whose name is Oerfa Pengwyn please can somebody translate it from welsh to english?
As everyone has said, Pengwyn translates as Whitehead (and yes, people have suggested seriously that Welsh, Cornish or Breton might be the origin of the word penguin).
People are having more trouble with oerfa, however. This is because it's not an ordinary noun in Welsh. Literally it means "place of cold" or just "cold place". Oer means cold (adj.) and -fa is a suffix indicating place. For example, a meddyg is a doctor, so a meddygfa is a doctor's surgery. Sometimes the nouns thus formed become more abstract, however. Lladdfa (from lladd "kill") means massacre, which is less a place than an event.
However, the word oerfa is much less common, and only really appears in place names. I believe there's a Llyn Oerfa (llyn means lake) and a Bryn yr Oerfa (Bryn yr means "hill of the"), which is the summit of some hill or mountain in Powys. I've also seen houses with the name. I suppose an English equivalent would be something like Coldstead
So: Coldstead Whitehead is more or less what the name translates as, and just goes to show that names are sometimes better left untranslated.
In case you're interested, by the way: the words for fridge and freezer are oergell (cold cell) and rhewgell (ice-cell). The words for coldness are oerni and (less commonly) oerfel.
Oh, and finally (sorry to go on), just in case you didn't know, it's pronounced OYR-va pen-GWIN.
I have a welsh pony whose name is Oerfa Pengwyn please can somebody translate it from welsh to english?
I am not sure if I have it right, but Pengwyn means white head (or wise one, or wisdom depending on context) and I think Oerfa is Western (or from the west)
That would be really idiomatic.
Does your pony have white on its head like this one.

Welsh name pronunciation?
Hi! I have always loved the look of the name Aelwyn, I know it's Welsh, but I have no idea how to pronounce it... I have guesses, but no really knowledge of the Welsh language... can anyone help me out? Thanks!!!
Welsh name pronunciation?
Aelwyn is pronounced slightly differently in the North and the South of Wales. The difference is minor though, so in the South it would be Ael...pronounced roughly (but not exactly) like 'heil' without the 'h' and wyn.. pronounced win.
Aelwyn....Eil-win. (or I'll win with the stress on the I'll)
(In N Wales it's more like 'hey ' without the 'h' and win
Aelwyn...Ey-lwin)
Elwyn is pronounced differently...El-win.
Reply:el-win
Reply:I have no idea either, but guessing from some Welsh words I DO know how to pronounce, I'd say 'EL-win.' Just a guess though!
Reply:In general;
Ae is pronounced eye or aye
Wyn is pronounced win or whin
So Aelwyn would sound like aislewhin or I'llwin

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WELSH NAME?
i am having a little girl and i am using a welsh name cause i love the names. mine are Terrwyn, carys, rhedyn, arlais. what are your favorite welsh names for a girl.
I was thinking carys Arlais but people told me i should use a normal name so its going to be Carys Anabelle
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WELSH NAME?
I love Carys! :)
I also like Aderyn and Branwen; they mean "bird" and
"beautiful raven", respectively.
Welsh names are lovely, but I tend to like Hebrew, Greek, Irish, and German names more.
Reply:Rhiannon was one of my favorite Welsh names ever (and there's even a song by that name!) I love the name Ceindrych, too. It's pronounced almost like "Kendrick."
The only problem I foresee is that if the child's last name is something of a different ethnicity, it can sound kind of funny.

What would you name a pembroke welsh corgi?
It all depends on the dog's personality. We have a Welsh Corgi named Baxter and it fits him perfectly. I like human names for Corgis. These dogs aren't really a spot or fido kind of dog. They have huge personalities and should really have a name that fits.

What is the name of an ex welsh secretary [parliment] who's name started with Red_____?
I think you mean John Redwood, MP for Wokingham, otherwise known as Mr Spock because of his big ears, who famously tried to mouth the words of the Welsh national anthem at a meeting of Welsh Tories when he clearly hadn't got a clue what the words were.

What is the longest name in welsh?
without being annoying
What is the longest name in welsh?
Llanfair.p.g (as it is usually said) is the longest name.
It is as well to remember that is was 'created' (for the English) especially to be the longest name.
Also when counting the letters perhaps it is as well to remember that the following represent one letter in Welsh. . ch, dd, ff, ll,ng, rh, so in Welsh the word is only 54 letters long.
Reply:i've hear it but i could not remember. oh- i think it's toooooooooooooooooooooooom jooooooooooooooooooones!

or llanfair p.g for short!
Reply:Lanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerych wyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch uchaf
It's all 1 word, but I had to do a space to make it all show instead of this it won't display properly:

Reply:I'm not all that familiar with Welsh baby names but looking through baby names world's list of Welsh names I just realized that my favourite childhood book (The Book of Three) must be based on Wales - because at least 10 of the names from the novel are on the list. Pretty awesome.
My favourite names they listed as Welsh male names were Brynn and Griffith but I don't think either really works all that well in context. Brynn doesn't work with the last name, Griffith might be a little close to Guinevere.
I rather like Merrick, Maddock, Kendrick and Jareth.
Merrick and Guinevere Vaugh?

Welsh middle name?
My mum and I are thinking about adding a Welsh name to my name (my mum is welsh and my brother and all my cousins have Welsh middle names). We were thinking something beginning with 'A', but any suggestions are welcome...
(current name: Emily Rowan Poore)
Anyone have an opinion on Arianwyn?
We were thinking maybe Arglwyddes (just joking!)
Welsh middle name?
Arianwen means the blessed. Rowan is a sacred tree according to Norse mythology so I think they really work well together because of that. (Even if you spell it "y" rather than "e".)
Aneira (snow) and Anwyl (beloved) are also named that I think would fit.
