Reply:I'm Welsh and I know of one person called Gareth and a friend of mine has it as his middle name.

My name's Lewis and it used to be quite uncommon but now it's everywhere. A trip to deedpoll is in order I think lol
Reply:Hi, Gareth is mainly Welsh, but people use the name cos they like it, the meaning of Gareth is : Malory's remodelling of " Gahariet", my son is called Gareth after Gareth Edwards the Welsh rugby player, also my husband is Welsh so we wanted welsh names for our children
Reply:I know quite a few non Welsh Gareths-all aged between 25 and 30 so I guess it was popular about 30 years ago for some reason
Reply:It's not that unusual in Ireland either. I know two Gareths. The Irish version of it is Garrett. or Gearoid.

I like it. It's hunky and masculine
