If you want Irish names and their meaning, the last place you should look is babynames.com.

At least half of the meanings given above are totally ludicrous and have no connection with the real meanings, e.g. "Brennan" does not mean Prince - especially when there were no equivalents of a "prince" in Irish aristocracy (the heditary system under Brehon Law was completely different from the feudal system).

Conner = "Wolf lover"???

Cormac = "Destroying son"????

Other names listed were never used in Ireland until invented by "Irish" americans.

Devin = "Descendant of the dark-haired One"???? ROFLOL

Lastly, "Shannon" is the name of a river. It doesn't mean "Old" and the person who invented this meaning probably guessed it from another word "sean" which means old but has nothing to do with the river Shannon.
Reply:Why don't you type: 'Names' into your browser
